Descriptions
The materials used in Firefly jewelry are high quality natural
stones, Swarovski crystals, Czech crystals along with a variety
of metals.
Natural
Stones
Every effort has been made to identify the stones by their
correct names. Sometimes I purchase stones that are not identified.
In these cases, the stones will be referred to by their color
or shape.
Crystals
A variety of crystals are used in making my jewelry. A brief
description of these crystals may help you make your decision
when selecting a piece for your wardrobe.
Crystals are made from glass. Swarovski crystals have higher
lead content than other crystals which makes them very shiny
and more expensive. Their sparkle is brilliant. AB (aurora
borealis) crystals are Swarovski crystals that have a special
finish that adds an iridescent quality. More color reflects
off AB crystals than those crystals without AB finish.
Czech crystals come in a beautiful array of colors and also
are very nice crystals. Their look is a little less formal
and they are more affordable than Swarovski crystals. I try
to specify which crystal is used in each piece.
Take care in storing your pieces. Crystals can scratch other
crystals if they rub each other and can scratch other softer
gemstones such as pearls. It is best to hang up your necklaces
and bracelets and keep them straight.
Metals
There are several metals used in these items. Some people
have sensitivity to certain metals. I try to describe the
metals used so those with metal allergies may make appropriate
choices. Changes can be made to most ear wires if needed.
Please e-mail me ahead of time if a change needs to be made.
A distinction is made between silver and sterling silver.
Silver ear wires refer to well-made silver alloy ear wires,
which is strong and resists tarnish. If a piece is made from
sterling silver, that is specifically mentioned. Sterling
does tend to tarnish and may need periodic cleaning. Silver
pieces should be stored in a moisture-free area.
There are several silver cleaners on the market, but some
are harsh and will damage pearls or other soft stones. Read
the label carefully before using. Sterling silver ear wires
can easily be brightened up to their original state with toothpaste
and a moist soft cloth. 14K gold will be specified. Gold vermeil
is 14K gold (or higher) over sterling silver. It is a nice
alternative to pure gold.
Some necklaces and bracelets are strung on fine wire. This
wire can crimp if bent. Keep it hung up on a hook or lay it
flat and away from little hands. If it is not strung on wire
it is strung on 100% silk. Some bracelets are made with stretchable
jewelry cord and no clasp is used. This is a great product
which easy to put on and take off. I love it. Be careful not
to overstretch it, it does have its limits.
If you are not happy with your jewelry for any reason please
refer to the return guidelines.
